Comparison
1.2344 vs 1.2343
1.2344 and 1.2343 are the two classic hot-work grades. AISI calls them H13 and H11. 1.2344 has more vanadium and is the most widely used choice for hot-forming dies and die casting. 1.2343 is chosen when the drawing or the heat treatment requires H11.
The choice
Keep 1.2344 / H13 as the standard in hot work unless the drawing says 1.2343 / H11. Both are typically supplied soft annealed for machining and hardened afterwards.
- 1.2344 – AISI H13 – Orvar / W302 track
- 1.2343 – AISI H11 – W300 track
- The certificate carries the W.Nr. – not only the H number
Documentation
Write the W.Nr. or H number plus dimension. ESR variants are a separate requirement, not something H13 automatically implies.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I replace H13 with H11?
- Only if the drawing and the heat treatment allow it. They are two W.Nr. – not two spellings.
