INDUSTRISTÅL A/S

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most often about stock, cutting to size, certificates, quotes and the choice between grades. If your question is not here, send an enquiry – we reply in English.

Before you ask

An enquiry needs grade (name or W.Nr.), form, diameter or cross-section, length, quantity and delivery condition. Without the condition the bar is half specified.

Still in doubt?

Talk to a steel specialist. Write what you know – or upload a drawing – and we come back with mill, condition, certificate and lead time.

Frequently asked questions

What does INDUSTRISTÅL supply?
Round bar, flat bar, plate, tubes, stainless, special alloys, tool steel and pressure vessel grades from European partners. We cut to your size and ship with a certificate. Fittings, flanges, coating, InduSeal, forgings and finished parts are also included when the job requires it.
Do you hold steel in stock in Denmark?
No. INDUSTRISTÅL has access to extensive partner stock through our European partners. Stock status, dimensions and lead time are confirmed on enquiry.
Do you cut to size?
Yes. Band saw to the length the drawing or CNC machine needs – not one bar more than necessary. Sawing does not change the condition: a +QT certificate follows the cut piece. Boring, heat treatment and induction bending are separate services.
Do you supply nickel alloys, duplex and Alloy 625?
Yes. Nickel, duplex, heat-resistant and highly alloyed stainless, cobalt and titanium in bar, plate, tubes, fittings, flanges and welding wire; sawing, waterjet and laser as required. Typically Alloy 625, 825, 718, C-276, 800H and duplex via European mills – not a stock statement. State grade, form and sizes.
Can you supply type B elbows and fittings to drawing?
Yes. Fittings DIN/EN Ø12–Ø2000 mm, ASME 1/2–60″ (Ø15–Ø1524 mm), boring and end machining up to Ø610 mm, turned specials up to Ø480 mm. Type B / Teil 2, intermediate sizes, other angles and parts out of solid material. It is a delivery programme via European mills – not a stock statement. State standard, Ø, wall and angle.
How large forgings can you supply?
Typically 5–30,000 kg per piece, diameter up to Ø2500 mm in carbon steel and Ø2300 mm in stainless, length up to 12 m. Heat treatment and turning to size as required. It is a delivery programme via European mills – not a stock statement. Send drawing, grade and sizes.
Can I buy steel in small quantities?
Yes. We supply from single cut pieces to larger lots, and you do not have to take a whole merchant length to get the one piece the drawing requires. State grade, sizes and quantity – and we tell you what can be cut in that particular dimension.
Is there a minimum charge on small orders?
No. We do not apply a minimum charge to a small quantity, and we do not charge for the 3.1 certificate. The price follows the material, the machining and the freight – so a single part length can be ordered on the same terms as a series.
Is a certificate included – and does 3.1 cost extra?
EN 10204 3.1 is included and costs nothing extra. 3.2 and classification societies such as DNV, ABS and TÜV are ordered before we secure the material at the mill – not afterwards.
How do I get a quote?
Use the form on the contact page: grade, form, sizes and quantity. State your company registration number (CVR) – then we fill in company name and address, and the theoretical weight is included. The enquiry lands with our steel specialists, and we reply in English. Call if it is urgent.
What should an enquiry contain?
Grade (name or W.Nr.), form, diameter or cross-section, length, quantity and delivery condition – +QT, +N or as rolled. Also state certificate requirements (3.1, 3.2, classification society) and whether the bar is to be cut. Without the condition the bar is half specified.
Do you deliver throughout Denmark?
Yes. We ship with Danish hauliers – export lorry, crane lorry or container as required. Our office is in Copenhagen K; the goods come from the European mills we trade with.
What is the difference between 3.1 and 3.2?
2.2 is a declaration without heat-specific tests. 3.1 is heat-specific and signed by the manufacturer's inspection. 3.2 involves an external party – notified body or the customer's inspector. 3.1 is standard with us.
Is 4140 the same as 42CrMo4?
AISI/SAE 4140 is a closely related American steel grade that is often cross-referenced to 42CrMo4 / 1.7225. However, they should not automatically be regarded as identical. Requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment and delivery condition must be checked against the actual specification and the material certificate before substitution.
When do I choose 34CrNiMo6 instead of 42CrMo4?
42CrMo4 (1.7225) is the standard in moderate diameters. 34CrNiMo6 (1.6582) wins when the core of a large cross-section still has to perform – more nickel, better hardenability. The same W.Nr. at Ø80 and Ø400 is not the same material.
Are S355J2 and C45 the same steel?
No. S355J2 is welded and is not hardened. C45 is carbon steel for hardening in small cross-sections. Both appear as “ordinary steel” on drawings, but the certificate and the process are different.
Can I search for 42CrMo4 round bar Ø200?
Yes. Search by grade, product form and diameter – for example 42CrMo4 round bar Ø200 or 1.7225 round bar. On the material page for 42CrMo4 / 1.7225 you will find technical data, partner stock, dimensions and the option to send a specific enquiry.
Do you have a dimension programme per steel grade?
Yes. The dimension programme collects typical enquiry ranges for Ø, thickness and form – quenched and tempered, case-hardening, structural, pressure vessel, stainless and tool steel. It is not a stock statement and not a page per millimetre. Length is sawn. State sizes and condition on the enquiry.
Which grades can I look up?
Structural steel, tool steel and stainless grades. Search by name, W.Nr., EN, AISI, Uddeholm, Böhler or Ovako. Every grade has its own page.
Do you machine beyond sawing?
Boring, heat treatment and induction bending. We work to drawing when the job is a semi-finished part – not a finished part from our own machine shop in every case. Ask, and we tell you what is possible.
When do I use ReSteel instead of INDUSTRISTÅL?
When a remnant length already held by another company can do the job. ReSteel is a B2B remnant marketplace between companies. If the material has to be new from the mill with a certificate, we cut it to size here – even when you only need a single piece.
Where are you located, and when can I call?
Our office is in Copenhagen K. Opening hours and phone number are shown on the contact page. Managing director Lars Blomholt is happy to take the call directly, and we respond in English.
What are finished parts from Ravne Systems?
INDUSTRISTÅL represents Ravne Systems in Denmark. SIKNIVES are industrial knives and wear parts for recycling, metal, wood and paper – DURALIFE V+ and RAVMAX in granulators. It is Ravne's own programme, not OEM spare parts from the machine builder. State machine, sizes and fraction.
