Round bar cut to your size

Round bar is the form most of our orders start with. We supply alloy round bar, quenched and tempered round bar (+QT), structural steel and stainless in hot-rolled, forged, peeled and bright-drawn execution – and cut to the length your CNC machine or forge needs, from a single piece to larger series.

Grades we cut most often – from shaft steel to structural

In machine building, 42CrMo4 / 1.7225 and 34CrNiMo6 / 1.6582 are the two primary quenched and tempered shaft steels (+QT), supplemented by 30CrNiMo8 / 1.6580 for the heaviest sections. For welded structures it is S355J2. For gears and wear surfaces we supply case-hardening steels such as 16MnCr5 and 18CrNiMo7-6. C45 and C45E are chosen when the through-hardening requirement is moderate.

Dimension, condition (+QT) and high strength in round bar

Small dimensions can often be supplied bright drawn or ground. Medium and large diameters are supplied as rolled or forged round bar – typically +QT (quenched and tempered) when the job calls for high-strength round bar for shafts, pins and machine parts. Because hardenability falls with increasing diameter, chromium-molybdenum steel (42CrMo4) is chosen for moderate sections and chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel (34CrNiMo6 or 30CrNiMo8) for heavy shafts. The plus symbols on the drawing (+N, +QT) are explained in the guide to bar condition.

Round bar cut to size – also in small quantities

Only need a small quantity? You can buy round bar in small quantities without minimum charge. We cut the bar to the sizes you need and supply from single pieces to larger series – you do not have to take a whole merchant length to get the one piece the drawing requires. State Ø, length, quantity and condition, and we confirm what can be cut in that grade. On relevant materials the EN 10204 3.1 material certificate also accompanies a small delivery.
