Pressure vessel steel
16Mo3 / 1.5415 boiler steel
16Mo3 is a molybdenum-alloyed boiler steel with Werkstoffnummer 1.5415. Mo holds the strength at temperatures where P265GH lets go. The older DIN name 15Mo3 points to the same number. INDUSTRISTÅL supplies plate and tube and ships with 3.1. 13CrMo4-5 when the temperature rises further. It is not a QT shaft steel.
Typical applications
- Boiler tubes
- Heating surfaces
- Pressure vessel plate at higher temperature
Delivery conditions
- to EN 10028-2 / the tube standard on the order

Heat treatment
Boiler condition to the standard the certificate cites. Not +QT like 42CrMo4.
Machinability and weldability
Yes, as boiler steel. Procedure and PWHT follow the plant.
Sawing and machining
Tube and plate to order. State dimension, wall and temperature requirement – not just “16Mo3 round bar”.
Certificates and documentation
EN 10204 3.1 as standard. PED route by arrangement.
Dimension programme
| Form | Range | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Round bar | Bar to order | When the form is bar, not plate. |
| Plate | 6–60 mm thickness | When the temperature calls for molybdenum. |
| Seamless tube | Ø6–Ø2000 mm | Boiler tube. Wall to EN 10220. State DN, wall and certificate. |
| Welded tube | Ø6–Ø2000 mm | Welded DIN/EN. Wall to EN 10220. State weld seam and certificate. |
| Fittings | Ø12–Ø2000 mm | ASME 1/2–60″ (Ø15–Ø1524 mm). Type A and B. Not a stock statement. |
| Flanges | Ø14–Ø2000 mm | ASME 1/2–60″ (Ø15–Ø1524 mm). PN 6–400. Not a stock statement. |
Parts of the range are held by European partners; other dimensions can be sourced. The range is not a current stock status in every diameter — stock is confirmed on enquiry.
Frequently asked questions
- What is 16Mo3?
- 16Mo3 / 1.5415 is a molybdenum-alloyed boiler steel. It is used when the temperature calls for Mo.
- Is 15Mo3 the same as 16Mo3?
- 15Mo3 is the older DIN name for the same W.Nr. 1.5415.
- When do I move from P265GH to 16Mo3?
- When the operating temperature is where P265GH lets go of its strength. Molybdenum is what holds the strength at temperature – it is a different grade and a different W.Nr., not an upgrade of the same plate.
- When is 13CrMo4-5 the next step?
- When the temperature rises further than 16Mo3 is intended for. State the temperature requirement on the enquiry, and the grade follows the design.
- Is 16Mo3 a shaft steel?
- No. It is a boiler steel traded to EN 10028-2 or the tube standard on the order. It is not +QT like 42CrMo4, and the certificate shows the boiler condition the standard cites.
- Can you supply 16Mo3 tube?
- Yes. State DN or outside diameter, wall and certificate.
