Case-hardening steel
18CrNiMo7-6 / 1.6587 case-hardening steel
18CrNiMo7-6 is an alloy case-hardening steel with Werkstoffnummer 1.6587 to EN 10084. Nickel, chromium and molybdenum give a hard case and a tough core in coarse cross-sections. It is not a QT shaft steel like 34CrNiMo6. Drawings may specify ZF1A or the older 17CrNiMo6; the EN designation we trade under is 18CrNiMo7-6 / 1.6587. We do not publish those names as identical chemistry. INDUSTRISTÅL supplies bar, cuts to length and ships with 3.1.

Heat treatment
Carburising and hardening. Confirm the condition on the certificate before the heat is committed.
Sawing and machining
Cutting to length. State whether ZF1A is a drawing name or a separate requirement. Forged blank when rolled bar does not cover the size.
Certificates and documentation
EN 10204/3.1 as standard. Confirm the designation (18CrNiMo7-6 / ZF1A) on the certificate.
Dimension programme
| Form | Range | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Round bar | Ø80–250 mm, above that subject to mill | Heavy gears. ZF1A is a trade alias — W.Nr. 1.6587 on the certificate. Not 34CrNiMo6. |
Parts of the range are held by European partners; other dimensions can be sourced. The range is not a current stock status in every diameter — stock is confirmed on enquiry.
Frequently asked questions
- What is 18CrNiMo7-6?
- 18CrNiMo7-6 / 1.6587 is the heavy-duty case-hardening steel to EN 10084. Hard case, tough core in large cross-sections. Drawings may specify ZF1A.
- Is ZF1A the same as 18CrNiMo7-6?
- Drawings and supplier lists often use ZF1A for W.Nr. 1.6587. We supply to the name and the certificate you can approve – not as a promise of a particular mill list. ZF1 without the A is 17CrNi6-6 / 1.5918.
- Is 17CrNiMo6 the same as 18CrNiMo7-6?
- 17CrNiMo6 is an older DIN drawing name in the same family. The EN designation is 18CrNiMo7-6 / 1.6587. We supply to the EN name and the certificate – not as a promise of identical analysis.
- Is 18CrNiMo7-6 a quenched and tempered steel?
- No. It is case-hardened. 34CrNiMo6 is the QT shaft steel at the heavy end.
- Can you supply 18CrNiMo7-6 round bar?
- Yes. State Ø, length and condition – and whether the drawing says ZF1A. Large gears may be forged.
