25CrMo4 / 1.7218 quenched and tempered steel
25CrMo4 is an alloy quenched and tempered steel with Werkstoffnummer 1.7218. The carbon content is below 42CrMo4: tougher, slightly lower strength, and better scope for welding with preheating. Chromium and molybdenum give a hardenability that C45 does not have. INDUSTRISTÅL supplies bar from European mills, cuts to length and ships with 3.1. The S variant 25CrMoS4 (1.7213) is available when machining is specified.

Heat treatment
Hardened and tempered. +QT is the usual bar condition.
Machinability and weldability
Weldability is better than 42CrMo4, still with preheating. Not S355.
Sawing and machining
Cutting to length. Heat treatment by agreement if the bar is not already +QT.
