11SMn30 is free-cutting steel. Sulphur gives short chips and high cutting speed. It is not welded, and it is not hardened like C45.

What it is used for
Series-turned small parts, fittings and components where machinability is what counts.
Limits
Not for welded parts or parts requiring hardening. 11SMnPb30 when lead is to help chip breaking further.

Certificates and documentation
11SMn30 can be supplied with a material certificate to EN 10204, depending on producer, dimension and the requirements specified for the delivery. The certificate follows the delivered heat and condition. If it is hardness or machinability the part is chosen for, that is not automatically on the paper — state the requirement and we will say what the mill can document. EN 10204 3.1 can be supplied on a wide range of our materials.
