Non-alloy case-hardening steel
C22 / 1.0402 non-alloy structural steel
C22 / C22E is non-alloy carbon steel for case hardening or light hardening. Slightly more carbon than C15, still not a C45.

What it is used for
Smaller machine parts with a wear surface and tough core.
Limits
C15 when the core must be softer. C35/C45 when the whole section is to be included in the hardening.
Delivery
We source C22 from European mill partners as round bar, flat bar, square bar, cut to your dimensions and ship the certificate with the material. Typical condition: +A / +FP. Standard: C22E. From a single cut piece to larger lots — with no minimum charge, so you do not have to buy a full commercial length to get what you need.
Certificates and documentation
C22 can be supplied with a material certificate to EN 10204, depending on producer, dimension and the requirements specified for the delivery. The certificate documents the analysis and the delivery condition — not the finished case hardening, since case and core hardness only arise at the heat treater. If the hardening result is to be documented, that is a separate agreement. EN 10204 3.1 can be supplied on a wide range of our materials.
