Precipitation-hardening stainless steel
17-4PH / 1.4542 stainless steel
17-4PH / 1.4542 is a precipitation-hardened stainless steel. Strength is set by ageing (H900–H1150), not by classic QT alone.
- Delivery conditions
- solution annealed or precipitation hardened
- Also known as
- 1.4542, X5CrNiCuNb16-4
Designations
- W.Nr.
- 1.4542
- EN standard
- X5CrNiCuNb16-4
- Group
- Stainless steel
What it is used for
Shafts, valves and highly stressed stainless parts.
Limits
316L when corrosion weighs more heavily than strength. 15-5PH when anisotropy needs to be reduced.
Delivery
We source 17-4PH from European mill partners as round bar, plate, flat bar, seamless tube, welded tube, cut to your dimensions and ship the certificate with the material. Typical condition: solution annealed or precipitation hardened. Standard: X5CrNiCuNb16-4. From a single cut piece to larger lots — with no minimum charge, so you do not have to buy a full commercial length to get what you need.
Certificates and documentation
17-4PH can be supplied with a material certificate to EN 10204, depending on producer, dimension and the requirements specified for the delivery. On stainless, the analysis and the delivery condition are what the certificate shows. If a specific test or an ageing/hardening condition is to be documented, it must be specified before we order. EN 10204 3.1 can be supplied on a wide range of our materials.
