Structural steel
Structural steel
Round bar, steel plate, flat bar and square bar in S235JR, S355 and S690QL. We saw and cut to size and ship EN 10204/3.1 with the delivery.
Structural steel cut to size
- Round bar: Rolled bar, cut to the length the drawing states. S355J2 is the grade most people specify.
- Steel plate: Plate in S355J2 and S690QL, cut to size. Thickness and format go in the enquiry.
- Flat bar: Flat bar in the same grades as round bar, when the part is flat and not a plate.
- Square bar: Square bar, sawn to length. The grade is stated on the 3.1 certificate, not as a stock promise.
S355 steel, S235JR and S690QL
Each grade has its own page. S355J2 round bar and S690QL plate point to where the page already exists. Technical tables are on Staalguiden.
- S235JR: Weldable structural steel to EN 10025-2. W.Nr. 1.0038.
- S355: The strength class 355 MPa. The certificate typically states S355J2 unless the drawing specifies another suffix.
- S355J2: J2 is impact toughness at −20 °C. In S355J2+N, +N is the delivery condition normalised or normalising rolled to EN 10025-2. It is not a different steel grade, but without +N on the certificate the condition is not that.
- S355J0: S355 to EN 10025-2 with impact toughness at 0 °C. W.Nr. 1.0553.
- S690QL: High-strength plate to EN 10025-6. W.Nr. 1.8928. QL is impact toughness at −40 °C.
- S690QL1: Same strength class as S690QL, with impact toughness at −60 °C. W.Nr. 1.8988.

Frequently asked questions
- What do you supply as structural steel?
- Round bar, steel plate, flat bar and square bar. The common grades are S235JR, S355, S355J2, S355J0, S690QL and S690QL1. State dimensions and grade, and we come back with a price.
- What is the difference between S355 steel and S355J2?
- S355 is the strength class. S355J2 (1.0577) is the designation with impact toughness at −20 °C. S355J2+N is not the same delivery: +N is the condition normalised or normalising rolled to EN 10025-2, and it has to be stated on the certificate.
- Can I get S355J2 as round bar and S690QL as plate?
- Yes. S355J2 is supplied as round bar, plate and flat bar, sawn or cut to size. S690QL and S690QL1 are high-strength plate to EN 10025-6.
- Do I get structural steel with a 3.1 certificate?
- EN 10204/3.1 accompanies the delivery. 3.2 when a notified body or the end customer requires it. We do not rewrite the steel to a different grade on the certificate.
